lyrics

Yesterday went by and nothing happened. The same as every day. And I get tired of waiting for something to happen, so I leave a troubled city for another troubled city. The cities are all troubled, and the citizens are all lost. I’ve given up believing in them, and they’ve given up believing in me.

And somewhere between the troubled cities I get lost, swallowed up by the mists of the forests. I could be anywhere. I could be nowhere. Sometimes I forget there is a destination, or even a starting point. There is only in between, in between nothing and nothing.

You don’t know who I am. You won’t ever know who I am.

And it feels I haven’t seen anyone for days, but that’s when I see you sitting across from me. You remind me of someone I used to know. You remind me of someone I used to be.
You remind me of someone I wanted to be.

I see you sitting across from me, something I could never have, just like everything else around here these days. And I think you are looking at me, but you’re really looking right through me. I’ve never been so invisible in plain sight.

You don’t know who I am.
You don’t even know who I am.
And I could be anyone, because you won’t ever know who I am.

And by daylight the cities are all troubled, but at night they let go; they let themselves go. When I get home and the city is letting go, I let go. When I get home and the city is open, I remember that I am alive.

But there is nothing here that I recognize. It happened so fast. When did it happen? The streets don’t belong to me anymore. So I look around until I see your face, a face that I recognize. I don’t know if I’m even really here. And if I ever was, it was a long time ago. I’m not here. Touch me, so that I can be here. Touch me, so that I can be real.

You don’t know who I am.
You won’t ever know who I am.
I could be anyone,
because you won't ever know who I am.

Tired eyes.
Fall asleep as time passes by.
Awake somewhere new,
I will find my way home.

Close my eyes, see your face
slip away.
The cities all change.
Awake, to start again,
until I find my way home.
